Willie “Pop Bill” Martin, age 78, exchanged time for eternity on Tuesday, October 25, 2022, at his residence. He was a native of New Orleans, LA and a lifelong resident of Marrero, LA. Willie was a graduate of Lincoln high School. He was a retired truck driver of Texaco Company and the Jefferson Parish Water Department. Willie was a faithful member of St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church for over 57 years, until his health began to decline. He was active with several ministries of the church, which include the Deacon Ministry, Sick and Shut-in Committee, Bible Class Leader at the church, Louisiana Training Institute, and Angola State Penitentiary, St. Mary’s Male Chorus and Westbank Male Chorus to just name a few. For his outstanding leadership he was recognized as Father of the Year, as well as Man of the Year. Loving father of Willie, Martin Jr. OF Marrero, LA, Dennis (Catina) Martin, Sr. of Texas, Philip (Kimberly) Martin, Sr. of North Carolina, and Rena’ Rachel Martin of Marrero, LA. Son of the late Earl Sr. and Lucy Martin. Beloved brother of Earl Martin, Jr., Henry Martin, Esther M. Louis, Irma M. (Benjamin) Cole, Larry (Sandra) Martin, Ruth I. Payne, Alvin D. Martin, Barbara J. Martin, James Martin, and the late Baby Evelyn Martin all of Marrero, LA. Godfather of Alisha Mitchell, Tanya Ross, and Jessica Goirl. Also cherishing his memories are 16 loving grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers, and members of St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church and all neighboring churches are invited to attend the Celebration of Life at St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church, 6223 6th Ave. Marrero, LA on Saturday, November 5, 2022, at 10:00a.m. Pastor Edward Joseph III, officiating. Visitation will begin at 8:30a.m. until service time at the church.
