Wendell Mack Homer, age 61, passed away on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at Ochsner Medical Center Main Campus. He was a native of New Orleans, LA and a resident of Gretna, LA. “Mack”, as he was affectionately known to family and friends, was a graduate of Belle Chasse High School and he attended the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. He later attended Jefferson Parish Vocational Technical School, where he received a degree as an automotive technician. He was employed as a transmission specialist for over 30 years. Wendell also operated a successful trucking business for more than 30 years. He was a faithful member of White Dove Fellowship of Harvey, LA and a former member of Mount Zion Baptist Church of Oakville, LA. Wendell had a kind and generous spirit, helping family and friends in any capacity he could. He was the cook for family gatherings, including reunions, graduations, and birthdays. Devoted husband of Melissa Spurlock Homer. Loving father of Amanda Homer. Son of the late Ernest Homer, Sr and Julia Lawrence Homer. Grandson of the late Noles and Lillie Lawrence, Lora and Beulah Homer. Beloved brother of Verna Delone, Collette Grant, Colleen Sherman, Vernon Homer (Adrele), Anthony Homer (Bernadette), Bernadine Harney (Juan) of Texas, Wesley Homer (Drusilla), Curtis Homer (Venita), Joyce Rosette (Rev. Rosette) all of Arizona, and the late Ernest Homer, Jr. Brother-in-law of David and Cleveland Spurlock. Cherished uncle of Andrea, Jessica, Ashley, Angelica, Ariel, Valerie, Danielle, Dominique, Lauryn, and LaShone. Wendell is also survived by his great nieces, and nephews, Madison, Carrien, Angel, Dania, Aaron and Mason, and a host of other relatives and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers, and members of Greater Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church and all neighboring churches are invited to attend the Celebration of Life at Greater Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, 14747 Highway 23, Belle Chasse, LA on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at 10:00a.m. Pastor Joseph A. Brooks, host pastor; Rev. Robert Little, officiating. Visitation will begin at 8:30a.m. until service time at the church.
