WALTER JOHNSON, SR.

Walter Johnson, Sr. entered peacefully into eternal rest on Friday, September 11, 2026, at the age of 74. He was a native of New Orleans, LA and a resident of Cypress, TX. Walter was educated in the Jefferson Parish Public School System and later attended Delgado Community College. He proud veteran of United States Army. Following his military service, Walter continued his commitment to serving others through his employment at the V. A. Medical Center in New Orleans for 14 years as an Engineer. He was known by his colleagues as “The man that could fix anything!” Walter was also known as a true car and truck enthusiast. His passion for automobiles was evident in his impressive collection of cars, trucks, and model vehicles. He was a faithful member of Mount Olive Baptist Church in Harvey, where he severed with the Usher Ministry for 35 years. Following Hurricane Katrina, Walter relocated to Houston, TX, and became an active and faithful member of The Church Without Walls, where he remained a devoted member until his passing. Beloved husband of the late Sylvia Smith Johnson. Loving father of Walter Johnson, Jr., Jeffery D. (Rosalind) Byrd, Shrieka J. Williams, Jaysen (Amber) Johnson, and the late Walter Tremaine Byrd. Proud grandfather of Corey R. Williams, II, Jana’, Ralen, Jasmine, Rachelle, and Prince Byrd, and August Johnson. Son of the late Rev. John H. Johnson, Sr. and Daisy McClow Johnson. Devoted brother of Harry (Burdette) Johnson, Pastor Ricky (Terry Lynn) Johnson, Sr, Apostle George (Valerie) Green, Fay Williams, GeJoan (Warren) Garrett, Pamela (Wilhelm, Sr.), Allen, and the late Oscar Johnson, Sr., John H. Johnson, Jr., Audrey Burd, and Olga Mae Williams. Brother-in-law of the late Ronald Williams, Sr. and Audrey Loyd-Johnson. Also cherishing his memories are his godchildren, Brandon Michael Bentley, Raven J. Davis, and Wilhelm Allen, Jr., and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers, and members of The Church Without Walls, Houston, TX, Philadelphia Ministries and all neighboring churches are invited to attend the Celebration of Life at Philadelphia Ministries, 3181 Destrehan Avenue, Harvey, LA on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at 10:00a.m. Bishop James Daniels, host pastor; Pastor Ricky Johnson and Apostle George Green, officiating. Visitation will begin at 8:30a.m. until service time at the church.
