VIOLA SORRELLS

Viola Sorrells, affectionately known as Sorrells or Vi, age 70, transitioned peacefully into eternal rest surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, May 18, 2025. She was a native of Claiborne County, MS. and a resident of Terrytown, LA. Viola was a 1972 graduate of Port Gibson High School, and she continued her education at Delgado Community College and Charity School of Nursing. Where she obtained her ASN, LPN, and RN. Sorrells was a retired Registered Nurse who was formerly employed with Charity Hospital, University Medical Center and Our Lady of Wisdom Nursing Home. She was a faithful member of New Bethel Baptist Church of Harvey, LA. Devoted mother of Carnell Sorrells of Terrytown, LA. Loving daughter of the late James Wells and Hattie Mae Sorrells. Sister of Charles (Shelby) Ellis, Jr. of Marrero, LA, James Sorrells of Hermanville, MS, and the late Robert Ellis, Willie Luster Hall, Coatney Oquin, Dorothy Mae Oquin, Mary Wilson, and Gloria Sorrells. Devoted aunt of Crystal Frye Robair. Godmother of Le’Mar Frye of Dallas TX. Best friend of Christine Anderson (sister) of Hermanville, MS, Larry Ott of Harvey, LA, Mary Noel of New Orleans, LA, and the late Joycelyn Arnett, Cheryl Irving, John Camp, Emmanuel Ross and Theione Bertrand, also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. The family is deeply grateful for the many prayers, kind words and gestures of support during this time of bereavement. Relatives and friends of the family, also, pastors, officers and members of The House of Grace, New Bethel Baptist Church, all neighboring churches; employees of University Medical Center and Our Lady of Wisdom Nursing Home are invited to attend The Celebration of Life at The House of Grace, 3714 Westbank Expressway Ste.11 Harvey, LA on Monday, June 9, 2025 at 11:00am. Dr. Patricia M. Frye, host pastor: Pastor James Bridgewater, officiating. Visitation will begin at 9:30 am until service time at the above named church.
