VERNIE C FOREST, JR.

Vernie “Shotgun Shorty” Charles Forest, Jr., age 77, peacefully entered into eternal rest at his residence on Tuesday, May 20, 2025. He was a native and resident of New Orleans, LA. Vernie was educated in the Orleans Parish Public School System. He began his working career at an early age, opening a Sweetshop in 1969 and becoming a DJ. Vernie was employed from1975 -1988 as a Sandblaster with Tide and Avondale Shipyard, until his heath began to decline. Vernie will be remembered for his warmth and easygoing spirit, who touched the hearts of many. Beloved husband of Sheryl Davis Forest. Devoted father of Felicia, Prisicilla, Joseph (Terranisha), and Vernie Forest, III, Moses (LaShawn) Clark, and the late Charles Forest. Loving stepfather of Dwayne, Errol (Terronce), and Erica (Catara) Word. Son of the late Vernie, Sr. and Florence Forest. Brother of Jason (Bridget) Forest, Clara, Andrella, and Vanessa Forest; he was preceded in death by 6 brothers and 1 sister. Father-in-law of Lilly Forest. Son-in-law of the late Elvera Ward. Brother-in-law of Cynthia (Edward) Bienemy, Paulette Daniels, Larry and Lawrence (Joanell) Word. Vernie is also survived by his goddaughter Mariana Cordova, 27 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and dear friends, whose lives he touched. The family would like to send a very special thank you to the staff of Passages Hospice for the great service they provided to Vernie. Also, appreciation to the Sick and Shut in Ministry of Fischer Community Church for all their support. Relatives and friends of the family also pastors, officers and embers of Fischer Community Church, and priest and parishioners of St. David Catholic Church are invited to attend a Memorial Celebration at Davis Mortuary Service, 230 Monroe Street, Gretna, LA on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at 10:00a.m. Elder Warren Mitchell, officiating.
