VERNA MAE BROWN

Verna Mae Brown, a retired retail manger of  JC Penney Department Store, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, September 20, 2026, at the age of 75. She was a native of Marrero, LA and a resident of Gretna, LA. Devoted mother of Dwayne K. Benjamin and Erik L. Brown. Loving grandmother of Dejon Harden and Sage Williams. Daughter of the late Zeke Brown, Sr. and Alberta Brown; stepdaughter of the late Rev. M. B. Meacham. Granddaughter of the late Alex and Effie Knightshead. Beloved sister of Rodney Brown, Sr., Horace Brown, Elvera B. Williams, Carolyn Brown, Ann Hamilton, and the late Zeke Brown, Jr., Charles Brown, Theodore Brown, Ed Brown, and Thomas Brown. She was preceded in death by her niece Gina Brown, who was known as “her ride or die,” and her grand pup Dutch. Verna is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers, and members of Life Center Cathedral Family Life Center, Hosanna Fellowship, Macedonia Baptist Church, Praise Community Church and all neighboring churches are invited to attend the Celebration of Life at Life Center Cathedral Family Life Center, 2100 Ames Blvd., Marrero, LA on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at 10:00a.m. Bishop J. Douglas Wiley, officiating. Viewing will be held from 8:30a.m.-10:00a.m. ONLY at the church. Interment: Christian Social Cemetery, Gretna, LA.
