Vera Mae Wheeler Marshall, age 80, peacefully answered the call to be with the Lord in her heavenly home on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at Ochsner Medical Center Main Campus. She was a native of Gretna, LA (McDonoghville Community), a former resident of Westwego, LA and presently residing in Chalmette, LA. Vera Mae was employed as a Dietary Supervisor with the Jefferson Parish Public School System Norbert Rillieux Elementary School. In 2002, she retired after over 20 years of dedicated service. Vera Mae found great joy in spending time with her family, hosting gatherings at her home, where laughter and love filled every room. Her presence brought warmth and comfort to all who knew her. Beloved wife of the late Clarence “Mitch” Marshall, Sr. Loving mother of Kevin (Giselle) Marshall and the late Henry Marshall and Clarence Marshall, Jr. Cherished grandmother of Ryan, Bryan, Bria, Daniele, Courtney, Crystal, and Kevin, Jr. Daughter of the late Joseph, Sr. and Elnora Wheeler. Devoted sister of Moweaner Wheeler Green (Abby), Viola Wheeler Hensley (Robert), Alvin Martin (Faith), Stanley Bolds, and the late Joseph Wheeler, Jr., Willie Martin, Dorothy Martin Adams, and Alberta Martin Brooks. Verna Mae is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, other relatives, and dear friends. Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers, and members of Mt. Olive Baptist Church and all neighboring churches are invited to attend the Homegoing Celebration at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, 1701 Estalote Avenue, Harvey, LA on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at 10:00a.m. Pastor Rickey Johnson, officiating. Visitation will begin at 8:30a.m. until service time the church.
