Valerie Hills Carter went home to Glory on Saturday, November 26, 2022, at the age of 65. “Val,” as most knew her, was born in New Orleans, LA. She was educated in the Jefferson Parish Public School System and graduated from L. W. Higgins High School in 1975. As a military spouse she lived all over the country to include San Diego, CA; Jacksonville, FL; Virginia Beach, VA; Oviedo, FL and Denham Springs, LA. Everywhere Val went she made huge and lasting impressions on the people she met. Val was blessed and highly favored by her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She joined Rock of Ages Baptist Church in Marrero, LA at a young age. When the family moved to Virginia in 1980, she found a new church home in Olive Grove Baptist Church in Norfolk, VA. Val was an active member of the Usher Board, a Sunday School teacher, and an all-around willing participant in all church programs. In 2003, she joined Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in Oviedo, FL where she continued to serve faithfully. There Val assisted with church finances and assisted with their business affairs. She briefly attended college before finding her a career in banking. She spent over 25 years working for financial institutions. She started behind the teller line as the first smiling face the customers would see and Val quickly rose to the position of Teller Supervisor, training others to exceed at their craft. She held several other positions during her illustrious career culminating as an Assistant Vice President for Bank of America. Val retired from banking in 2005. She loved the simple things in life. Time with family, be it children, grandchildren, or siblings. Val recently moved back to her home state of Louisiana and looked forward to spending additional quality time with her siblings. Beloved wife of 45 years to Robert Carter. Loving mother of Edric (Shantel) Carter and LaShan (Ryan Rutherford) Carter. Daughter of the late Nathan Hills, Jr. and Dora Landix Hills. Also cherishing lasting memories are 8 grandchildren, 9 sisters, 2 brothers, and a hot of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, other relatives and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers, and members of Rock of Ages Baptist Church and all neighboring churches are invited to attend the Funeral Service at Rock of Ages Baptist Church, 6533 Acre Rd.
