RODNEY JESSIE, SR.

Rodney Jessie, Sr., affectionately known as “Rocky”, was called to his eternal home on Monday, January 9, 2023, at the age of 61. He was a native of New Orleans, LA and a resident of Harvey, LA. Rodney was employed with the Jefferson Parish Streets Department for 31 years, until his retirement in 2013. After retirement he continued his passion working as an inspector for Exceptional Inspections, LLC. He was an active member of St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church, where he sang in the mass choir and in the Voices of Praise. During his young adult years, he was an active member of the Avondale Community Choir. Rodney spent his whole life as a mentor, handyman and entertainer. The impact on every life he touched will remain throughout the test of time. Beloved husband of 38 years to Lois Montgomery Jessie. Devoted father of Rodney Jessie, Jr. and Racquel Jessie. Loving grandfather of Jordan Banks. Son of Alena Jessie and the late Roosevelt Jessie, Jr. Brother of Donald Jessie, Sr., Roosevelt Jessie III, Cletis Jessie, Sr., and Enderlin Jessie. Uncle of Donald Jessie, Jr., whom he loved as a son, and the late Cletis Jessie, Jr. Godfather of Joseph Jessie, Sr., Jasen Jessie, Chiquita Pounds, Wesley Adams, Brandi Momet, and Jania Celestine. Brother-in-law of Patricia Webster and Ann Jessie. Lifelong friend of Rodney Lyons, Sr.; also survived by a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.  He was preceded in death by his grandparents and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers, and members of St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church and all neighboring churches are invited to attend the Celebration of Life at St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church, 6223 6^th Avenue Marrero, LA on Wednesday, January 18, 2023, at 10:00a.m. Pastor Edward Joseph III, officiating. Visitation will begin at 8:30a.m. until service time at the church.
