Rita Farrar Black Lazard, age 96, transitioned peacefully into eternal rest at West Jefferson Medical Center on Monday, May 11, 2026. She was a native of Chicago, IL and a resident of Marrero, LA. Rita was educated in the Orleans Parish School System and was formerly self-employed in Janitorial Services. As the first of 10 children, she became the matriarch of her family. She spent most of her life in the Carrollton section of New Orleans, and she later relocated to the Westbank of Jefferson Parish, where her presence was a beacon of love and leadership. As a dedicated servant of the Lord, she touched countless lives through her kindness, devotion, and unwavering commitment to her community and family. Beloved wife of the late William “TeeDee” Lazard. Devoted mother of William Rodney Lazard, Hortense Lockett Dixon, Consuelo Lazard, and the late Bobby and Samuel Black, Bryan Keith Lazard, Sr. and Barbara Black Mason. Stepmother of the late Shirley Lazard Evans. Loving grandmother of Dwayne Moncrief of Detroit, MI, Damonde (April) Moncrief of Frisco, TX, Bryan Ketih Lazrd, Jr. of Kileen, TX, Ronald (Charlene) Mason, Samuel Black, Jr., Tanya (Tyrone) Martin, Shawntele (Gary) Green, Kaydra and Nikki Lazard, Simone Watson, Roxanne Jimenez of Montgomery, TX, Chantel (Albert) King of Crowley, TX, Joy Black-Smith of Marietta, GA, and Raven Brooks, of Baton Rouge, LA. Daughter of the late Solomon and Vera Farrar. Sister of the late Janice Banks Moody, Geraldine Banks Askins, Shirley Collins, Earl “BoBo” Farrar, Solomon Farrar, Louis Farrar, and James Banks. Godmother of Troy Banks and Nylas Payne. Also cherishing her memories are 41 great grandchildren, 42 great great grandchildren, 1 great great great grandchild, her devoted friends Jeweline Bee, Tomellar McPherson, and Sylvia George, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers, and members of Little Zion Baptist Church #3, priest and parishioners of St. Joseph The Worker Catholic Church and all neighboring churches are invited to attend the Homegoing Celebration at Little Zion Baptist Church #3, 441 Wilson Street, Marrero, LA on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at 10:00a.m. Pastor Norman D. Smith, III, officiating.
