Rev. John Fitzgerald Jackson, age 59, entered peacefully into eternal rest Thursday, November 9, 2023. He was a native of New Orleans, LA and a resident of Waggaman, LA. Rev. Jackson graduated from Riverdale High School, and served his county as a member of the United States Navy. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, Rev.  Jackson attended Loyola University New Orleans, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies. Being called by God to spread the Gospel, he continued his studies in theology, earning a Bachelor of Theology in 1993 from Union Baptist College and Theological Seminary, a Master of Arts in Theological Studies at Notre Dame Seminary School of Theology in 1994, and in 1997 he received a Master of Divinity from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He was ordained by Rev. Ernest Ford, Sr. of Hillcrest Baptist Church in Lake Charles, LA. Rev. Jackson was appointed pastor of African Methodist Episcopal Church in November 1996. He was employed as plant manager for Sarah Lee and KIOR. Beloved husband of 35 years to Trinette Ray Jackson. Devoted father of Joshua Elehue and Josiah Matthew Jackson. Loving grandfather of Jabari and Jeliyah Jackson. Son of the late Matthew and Theresa Thomas Jackson. Grandson of the late Adolph and Harriet Jackson, August and Neetie Thomas. Brother of Sharon J. Richard, Iris J. Madere, Errol Jackson, and the late Bernadette M. Jackson, Esther A. Jackson, and Erika L. Jackson. Nephew of Rev. Earnest Ford. Uncle of the late Patrick Davis. Great uncle of the late Johnathan Richard, Jr. Godson of the late Morris and Hazel Burbank. Son-in-law of the late Elehue L. and Charlie Mae Ray. Brother-in-law of Thomas, Ellis, Jr., Tyrone Ray, Maurice White, Lionel Ellison, Agnes Ellis, Jacquelyn Ray Malone-Ellison, and the late Albert Richard. “Gerald”, as he was affectionately known to family and friends, is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great great nieces and nephew, cousins, other relatives, and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers, and members of Fischer Community Church and all neighboring churches are invited to attend the Funeral Service at Fischer Community Church, 1737 L. B. Landry Avenue, New Orleans, LA on Thursday, November 16, 2023, at 10:00a.m.  Pastor James Nelson Brown, host pastor; Rev. Ronald Miller, associate pastor of Impact Baptist Church & Ministries of Memphis, TN, officiating. Visitation will begin at 8:30a.m. until service time at the church.
