Rev. Dr. Terrance “Poppa” Kinchen entered into eternal rest on Saturday, July 10, 2021 at the age of 57. He was a native of New Orleans, LA and a resident of River Ridge, LA. Terrance was a graduate of McDonogh 35 High School Class of 1981. He received his Bachelor of Science and Master of Theology Degrees from Christian Bible College. He later obtained his Doctorate from Kenner Christian Theological Bible College. Terrance served his country as a member of the United States Navy. He was the Director of New Jerusalem Christian Community Church, which later became A New Jerusalem Treatment Center. The facility provided room, board, and employment opportunities to nonviolent drug offenders as an alternative to incarceration. The center had a highly successful recovery rate which changed many lives. Devoted father of Kennedy Belton. Beloved son of the late George Washington Kinchen and Marilyn Rose Jones Hawkins. Grandson of the late Freddy and Irine Jones. Loving brother of George Lee Kinchen, Sybil Kinchen, Tracie (Curtis) Wells, Kerry M. (Leslie) Kinchen, and the late Stanley Kinchen. Nephew of the late Mable Johnson. Cousin of Marion Warren. Poppa, as he was affectionally known to family and friends, is also survived by a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives, and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers, and members of Franklin Avenue Baptist Church and all neighboring churches are invited to attend the Celebration of Life at Franklin Avenue Baptist Church, 8282 I-10 Service Rd. New Orleans, LA on Saturday, July 17, 2021 at 10:00a.m. Pastor Fred Luter, Jr., Senior Pastor; Pastor Johnell Thomas, officiating Visitation will begin at 9:00a.m. until service time at the church.
