Rev. Dr. Johnny M. McKinnies, Sr., entered eternal rest on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at the age of 92. He was a native of New Orleans, LA and presently residing in Katy, TX. Rev. McKinnies was a graduate of L.B. Landry High School, and he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Texas College in Tyler, TX. Later he received a Master of Education Degree in Administration and Supervision from Southern University of Baton Rouge. He was also certified in Child Welfare and Attendance from Louisiana State University of Baton Rouge. Rev. McKinnies had a Master of Divinity Degree and received a Doctoral Degree from Union Baptist College and Theological Seminary of New Orleans, LA. He studied at Holy Cross and Tulane University as well. Rev. McKinnies had 32 years of service with the Jefferson Parish School System, with 10 years at Bunche Junior High and Benjamin Banneker Elementary Schools. Also, 22 years as an Assistant Principal at Henry Ford Junior High and John Ehret High Schools. Rev. McKinnies was a Master Mason of the Pride of Algiers Lodge #102, Prince Hall. He was a founding member and past Basileus of Gamma Rho Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. He obtained 30 great years of religious guidance, knowledge and leadership at Mount Siani Baptist Church under the direction of his late Pastor, Dr. Linden H. Keiffer. Beloved husband of 50 years to late Jessie W. McKinnies. He later united in holy matrimony with the late Earnestine M. McKinnies, whom he shared 5 years of marriage. Loving father of Johnny, Jr, (Wanda), Deborah (Erksin), Lisa, and the late Rodney. Stepfather to Nora and Chester McKinney. Grandfather of Anthony Grimes, Jr, Joshua, Courtney (W. Tanner), and Johnny III. Great-grandfather of Alliyah. Son of the late Brady and Martha McKinnies Brother of the late Brady, Jr., Jafanus (JC), Joseph, Marion, Jesse, Martha, Catherine and Genevive. Brother-in-law of Rev. Robert Davison. Rev. McKinnies is also survived by his devoted niece Avis Webster and a host of other nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, his Israel Baptist Church family, and everyone he mentored and guided. Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers, and members of Israel Baptist Church and all neighboring churches; Westside Missionary Baptist Association; members of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity are invited to attend the Celebration of Life at Israel Baptist Church 1612 Esther St. Harvey, LA on Friday, October 2, 2026, at 10:00a.m. Pastor Darrell McKinnies of Israel Baptist Church Host Pastor; under the auspices of Westside Missionary Baptist Association, Pastor Damien Brown, President. Visitation will be held from 8:00a.m. until 10:00a.m.; Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc, Omega Service at 9:00.m. Interment: Providence Memorial Park Cemetery-Metairie, LA.
