Rev. Billy Earl Mickel, age 75, peacefully departed this life on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at Touro Hospital. He was a native of Hazelhurst, MS, a former resident of Marrero, LA and presently residing in New Orleans, LA. At the age of 22 he was called to preach the Gospel, while serving at Isreal Baptist Church on Harvey, LA. Rev. Mickel attended A. P. Clay Christian Theological College and was a member of Louisiana Rescue Mission Fellowship Organization, where he served as the secretary. As a talented and gifted gospel singer, he was a member of the True Tone Gospel Singers, and the Zion Harmonizers. Rev. Mickel used his talent to perform all over the world spreading the joy of Gospel music. He will be remembered as a person who never met a stranger and was loved by everyone who knew him. Beloved husband of 42 years to Ann Warren Mickel. Devoted father of Durel (Regina) Green, Albert (Sonya) Mickel, Corey (Jemimah) Mickel, Theresa (Michael) Degree, Edith (Octave) Mickel, Kimberly Mickel, Miesha Mickel, and Monique Butler. Loving grandfather of Laquasha Mickel, Lataysha Mickel, Reandra Taylor, Lerice Mickel, Dwayne Mickel, Tahj’Juan Dixon, Sanaya Mickel, Khalil Mickel, Blessing Banks, Ava Mickel, Ariant’e Drawsand, Deshon Belton, Albert Lawson, and Ronald Lawson; he was preceded in death by 2 grandsons. Son of the late Albert Mickel and Bertha Corley Mickel. Brother of Pastor Albert (Meredith) Mickel and the late Alma Nelson. Rev. Mickel is also survived by 17 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. The family would like to extend special thanks to the doctors and staff of Touro Hospital ICU department, staff of Davita Dialysis Center, Dr. Anderson and his staff at JenCare for the exceptional care provided to our loved one.Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers, and member of Macedonia Baptist Church, White Chapel Baptist Church, Isreal Baptist Church, and all neighboring churches are invited to attend the Celebration of Life at Rock of Ages Missionary Baptist Church, 6533 Acre Road, Marrero, LA on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at 10:00a.m. Pastor Terrence A. Ranson, host pastor; Pastor Albert Mickel, officiating. Visitation will begin at 8:30a.m. until service time at the church.
