MYRTLE ALICE GABRIEL RAY

Myrtle Alice Gabriel Ray, age 85, entered into eternal rest on Friday, May 16, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was a native of Little Rock, LA, raised in Belle Chasse, LA, and a resident of Gretna, LA. Myrtle was a graduate of Scottville High School, class of 1959, and Southern University A &M College, where she received her bachelor’s degree in elementary and secondary education in 1963. While at Southern, Myrtle was active in the civil rights movement. She taught in the Plaquemines Parish School System, and retired from the Orleans Parish School System, after 32 years of dedicated service. After retirement, she tutored students in the Jefferson Parish School System, preparing them for LEAP testing. She was an active and faithful member of Israelite Baptist Church, where she served as youth director, choir member and president for many years. Beloved wife of the late Theodore “Teddy” Ray. Devoted mother of Darryl, Sr. (Michelle), Dion, Sr. (Segura), and Donnie (Amy) Ray. Daughter of the late Samuel Gabriel, Sr. and Rose F. Gabriel. Loving sister of Millie (Larry, Sr.) LaFrance, Lillie G. Gray, Ronald Gabriel, and the late Samuel (Joyce) Gabriel, Jr., Sherman (Alberta) Gabriel, and Ranell M. Gabriel. Also cherishing her memories are 9 grandchildren,10 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers, and members of Israelite Baptist Church and all neighboring churches; alumni of Scottville and Sunrise High Schools; faculty, staff, and students of L. B. Landry High School and C. J. Colton Junior High School are invited to attend the Celebration of Life at Israelite Baptist Church, 144 Villary Street, Belle Chasse, LA on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at 10:00a.m. Rev. Kevin Gabriel, Sr., host pastor; Bishop Wilfret Johnson, officiating. Visitation will begin at 8:30a.m. until service time at the church. Interment: Little Rock Cemetery, Belle Chasse, LA.
