Mary Dean Haynes Collins, age 88, entered peacefully into eternal rest at Our Lady of Wisdom Health Care Center on Saturday, March 16, 2024. She was a native Tennille, AL and a resident of New Orleans, LA. Mary was a graduate of Edward Waters College and AME founded HBCU in Jacksonville, FL. She employed as an Administrative Assistant with the Bishops of the 8th Episcopal District of the AME Church from 1964-1984. Mary was a faithful member of Union Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church. She was also active with the Church Woman United, World Federation of Methodist & United Church Women, and the Louisiana Interchurch Conference, to name a few. Beloved wife of the late Rev. Clarence Collins. Devoted mother of Fredrick N. Collins, Felecia L. Collins, and Angelique M. (Johnas) Francois. Daughter of the late Arthur Daniel Haynes, Sr. and Elmira Davis Haynes. Loving sister of Ester Brown, Gale Haynes, Hazel Haynes, Arthur (Valerie) Haynes, Jr., Sidney Haynes, Sr., and the late India M. Hatten, Annie D. Thompson, and Jeremiah Haynes. Mother-in-law of the late NaujauMae Collins and Douglas Farrin. Sister-in-law of the late Dr. Carmen Haynes, Johnny P. Hatten, Paul Brown, and Coley Thompson. Also cherishing her memories are 4 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers, and members of Union Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church and all neighboring churches are invited to attend the Funeral Service at Union Bethel African Episcopal Church, 2231 Thalia Street, New Orleans, LA on Saturday, March 30, 2024, at 9:00a.m. Visitation will begin at 8:00a.m. until service time at the church. Interment: Oak Grove African Methodist Episcopal Church Cemetery-Kentwood, LA.
