Madeline J. Slack, age 61, entered peacefully into eternal rest at Ochsner Medical Center Main Campus on Monday, October 7, 2024. She was a native of Avondale, LA and a lifelong resident of Marrero, LA (Walkertown Community). Madeline was a graduate of L. W. Higgins High School, Southern University at New Orleans, and the University of New Orleans, where she earned her Masters degree in Education. She was an educator for over 20 years, who believed in the potential of every child and worked tirelessly to help them achieve their goals. Her love for teaching was evident in her engaging classroom environment. While teaching was her main passion that didn’t stop her from other pursuits. Her love for baking and the demand for her baked goods would spin off into her own side business, providing pies, cakes, pralines, gooey and more. Madeline’s warm smile, compassionate and giving spirit will hold everlasting memories in the hearts of all who loved and knew her. Devoted mother of Tamika (Albert) Slack, Joshua (Ja’Nelle) Slack, Jr., and Darius Slack. Cherished grandmother of Mikel Slack, Aldonis Westley, Joshua Slack III, Almyah Westley, and the late Prince Westley. Great grandmother of Mykel and Armani Allen. Beloved daughter of Ellove Johnson and the late Monroe Johnson, Sr. Loving sister of Mary (Mack) Crank, Joyce (Terry) Ross, Carolyn (Cedric) Singleton, Alice Marie Johnson, Jowava Johnson, Robert Johnson, Monroe Johnson, Jr., Curtis (Donna) Johnson, Stanford Johnson, Joseph “Patrick” Johnson, and the late Inez Holmes, Alvin Johnson, Wanda Blount, and Bobby Johnson. Madeline is also survived by her devoted friends, Linda, Ms. Lynn, Sandra, Elaine, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Relatives and friend of the family also pastors, officers, and members of St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church and all neighboring churches; employees of Jefferson Parish School Board are invited to attend the Celebration of Life at St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church, 6223 6th Street, Marrero, LA o Friday, October 18, 2024, at 10:00a.m. Pastor Edward Joseph, III, officiating.
