LOIS BROWN VARNADO

August 26, 1947 — September 16, 2022

Lois B. Varnado, age 75, transitioned to her heavenly home on Friday, September 16, 2022, at West Jefferson Medical Center. She was a native of New Orleans, LA and a lifelong resident of Marrero, LA. Lollie, as she was affectionately known, was a retired educator with the Jefferson Parish School System. She was an active member of St. Mary Baptist Church, where she served as a Deaconess. Devoted wife to the late John Maddock Varnado, for 51 years.  Loving mother of Savern Joseph (Camellia), Jason Jamal and the late Brian Keith Varnado. Grandmother of Chad Chistopher (Jazmine), Alexis Brooke, Ashley Henderson (Tony), Iralisha Deon, Sydney Joy, Emmanuel, Emily, Jeremiah, Naomi and Charity Ann. Great grandmother of Christian Prince, Kelly Kimbrough, and Blaize and Easton Varnado. Daughter of the late Merlin William, Sr., and raised by her late mother and stepfather, Viola and Bennie Allen, Sr.   Sister of Gail Jones (Chaunsey), Gretchen Williams (Gerard) and the late Joyce Woody, Melvin Stewart, Bennie Allen, Jr., James L. Walker, Sr., and Charles Williams (Fannie).  Daughter-in-law of the late Roosevelt, Sr. and Majorie Varnado. Sister-in-law of Josephine (Charles) Garrison, Roosevelt (Alisha), Ronald, Savern David (Linda), Chris, Louis (Annette), Tony, Anthony (Susanne), Claudia Allen, and the late Donald (Renelda) and Julie Teresa Varnado.  Devoted cousin of Mary Winder (Jerome, Sr.), Carolyn Francis (James, Sr.), and Katina Smith. Also left to cherish her memories are her godchildren, Carly Lashey Francis, and Gretchen Allen Williams, and host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers, and members of St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church, Trinity Church in Cedar Hill, Texas, Household of Faith Family Worship Church International and neighboring churches; employees of the Jefferson Parish School System, Rexel USA, Kinder-Morgan, and Northrop Grumman are invited to attend the Homegoing Celebration at St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church, 6223 Sixth Ave., Marrero, LA on Friday, September 23, 2022 at 10:00 a.m., Pastor Edward Joseph III, officiating. Visitation will begin at 8:30 a.m. until service time.
