Leah Chopin Stewart, age 94, entered peacefully into eternal rest at her residence on Wednesday, November 19, 2025. She was a native of Wallace, LA and a resident of Marrero, LA. Leah was a faithful member of Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as a Deaconess for 58 years. She loved to cook and enjoyed telling jokes. Beloved wife of the late Edward Stewart, Sr. Loving mother of Sherman J. (Catherline) Stewart, Alfred (Kimberlyn) Stewart, Gail Stewart, Charles Stewart, and the late Edward Stewart, Jr. Stepmother of Owen Stewart and the late Corliss and Mary Ann Stewart. Grandmother of the late Edward Keisha Stewart. Daughter of the late Samuel Chopin and Felicie Mitchell Chopin. Sister of the late Charles, Marshall, and Joseph Chopin, Archange Chopin Raphael, Augustine Chopin Thompson, Jane Chopin Gaither, Noelie Chopin Florence, Samuel Chopin, and Phillip Chopin. Also cherishing her memories are 9 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers, and members of Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church and all neighboring churches are invited to attend the Homegoing Celebration at Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, 1000 Walkertown Way, Marrero, LA on Thursday, December 4, 2025, at 10:00a.m. Pastor Thomas J. Brown, Jr., officiating. Viewing will be held from 8:00a.m.-9:50a.m. ONLY at the church. Interment: Restlawn Park Cemetery-Avondale, LA.
