Julius Donald Thomas entered into eternal rest at Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center in Houston, TX on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at the age of 81. He was a native of New Orleans, LA and a resident of Houston, TX. Julius was a graduate of L. B. Landry High School and later enlisted in the United States Army proudly serving his country from 1962-1965. After numerous years of civilian life, Julius re-enlisted in the Army for 18 additional years, before retiring as a Sergeant First Class. As an Army veteran, his life reflected order, discipline, trust, and respect. He gave thoughtful advice, always taking time to explain the possible outcome so that you can make wise and informed choices. He loved bowling and was a proud member of a blowing club that competed in many leagues over the years. In his spare time, he also enjoyed serving as an umpire for countless baseball games. Beloved husband of over 25 years to Darlene Thomas. Devoted father of Dr. Joan Cooper (Oscar) Rainey, Norma Thomas, Julius Lucky, JD Lucky, and Jellisa Thomas. Stepfather of Keith (Christine) Johnson, Jr., Ariane (Charles) Thipado, Ashley (Kevin) Jackson, and the late Kyron Jackson. Julius was also instrumental in the rearing of his grandson Landon Jackson. Son of the late Norman and Hazel Onezine. Loving brother of Joan Marie Payne and the late Earl Ronald Rogers. Brother-in-law of Timmy (Terri) Jackson, Tyrone (Harolyn) Jackson, Donald (Lisa) Jackson and the late Harold George Payne, and Diane Banks. Julius is also survived by 13 grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers, and members of Greater Morning Star Baptist Church and all neighboring churches are invited to attend the Celebration of Life at Greater Morning Star Baptist Church, 1242 Vallette Street, New Orleans, LA on Friday, December 12, 2025, at 10:00a.m. Pastor W. L. T. Littleton, officiating.Visitation will begin at 8:30a.m. until service time at the church. Interment: Mt. Olivet Cemetery-New Orleans, LA.
