JOYCELYN BUTLER OWENS

Joycelyn Butler Owens entered eternal rest on Monday, April 1, 2024, at the age of 88 surrounded by her loving family and friends. She was a native of Modeste, LA and a resident of Gretna, LA. Joycelyn was a retired nurse with Charity Hospital. She was a faithful member of New Zion Baptist Church, and she served on the Women’s Ministry, Benevolent Society, and Beauty Progress Auxiliary. Loving mother of Rickey Owens, and the late Mervin Ponson, and Henry Owens, Jr. Grandmother of Aaron Ponson, Sr., Ayan Ponson, Ricquel Bryant, Rike’ Owens, and Christopher Owens. Daughter of the late Mervin and Harriet Butler. Sister of the late Doris Butler Ponson and Irvin Butler. Mother in law of Lear Owens, and Iris Ponson. Godmother of Joycelyn Owens Barrett and Kacie Hockins, also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. Relatives and friend of the family also pastors, officers, and members of New Zion Baptist Church and neighboring churches are invited to attend a viewing at Davis Mortuary Service 230 Monroe St. Gretna, LA on Friday, April 12, 2024 from 4:00p.m. until 6:00p.m. Celebration of Life will be held  at New Zion Baptist Church 2319 Third St. New Orleans, LA on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at 10:00a.m. Pastor C. S. Gordon officiating. Visitation will begin at 8:30a.m. until service time at the above named church.  Interment: Christian Social Cemetery-Gretna, LA.
