Joyce L. Winzy, age 78, transitioned peacefully into eternal rest at West Jefferson Medical Center on Friday, April 29, 2022. She was a native of Chicot, AR and a resident of Harvey, LA. She was a graduate of Fifth Ward High School and Moler Beauty College. Joyce was self-employed Beautician and was known as one of the best hair stylish on this side of heaven. For many years she worked as a sales and makeup consultant for Fashion Two Twenty Cosmetic Company. She was later employed at William J. Fisher Elementary School with the Title 1 Program as a hall monitor. Joyce was a member of Holy Trinity Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir. She also sang with the Fischer Community Chorus. Beloved wife of the late Elijah Winzy. Loving mother of Diane (Rev. Lawrence) St. Cyr, Don (Monica), Donell (Chanda), Derell, and Deniel (Kawana) Girod, Desiree (Wilbert) Luke, Danita (Brian) Williams, and the late Durand Girod. Bonus mother of Margaret Gasper, Joseph Vee Dee, and Tallensi Jackson. Grandmother of the late Shamara Girod, Leonardo Girod, Ryan Keith Williams I and Ryan Keith Williams II. Daughter of the late Johnny Penn, and Easter Brown Penn. Granddaughter of the late Jimmy Penn and Daisy Whitaker Penn. Sister of William Penn, Alzadie (Tom) Hamilton, Cathy Hammond, Geraldine Penn, and the late Anna Lois Clark, Cornelius, Freddie, and Leonard Penn. Former wife of the late Robert Girod. Joyce is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers, and members of Holy Trinity Baptist Church, Providence Missionary Baptist Church and all neighboring churches are invited to attend the Homegoing Celebration at St. Stephen Missionary Baptist Church, 1738 L. B. Landry Blvd. New Orleans, LA on Friday, May 13, 2022, at 11:00a.m. Rev. Dr. Norman Francis, host pastor; Pastor Lawrence St. Cyr, officiating Visitation will begin at 9:00a.m. until service time at the above named church.
