JOSEPHINE VAUGHN DAVIS

February 4, 1934 — November 4, 2021

Josephine Vaughn Davis transitioned tranquilly in her sleep on Thursday, November 4, 2021, at the age of 87. She was a native and resident of New Orleans, LA. Ms. Josie, as she was affectionately known to family and friends, was a 1952 graduate of Booker T. Washington High School and extended her educational pursuits at the Dryades Street YMCA in the Business Administration program. She was employed for over 30 years, as an Intake Interviewer, with Charity Hospital. While at Charity, she was also Secretary Treasurer for 17 years for their AFL-CIO union. Ms. Josie was a member of Berean Presbyterian Church and an ordained Elder in the Presbyterian Church USA.  She will always be remembered for her culinary prowess, her mastery in the kitchen, the foot and love she put in all her pots. Ms. Josie didn’t only cook for her family she cooked for the entire community. She truly embodied the spirit of what made New Orleans a global phenomenon. Beloved wife of 67 years to the late Alexander Davis, Jr. Devoted mother Kenneth (Joyce) Davis, Kevin Davis, Kurt (Angela) Davis, Karl Davis, and the late Alexander Keith Davis. Loving grandmother of Christopher (Dejean) Brown, Keisha Davis (Michael) Cornin, Keith Alexander, Kenneth (Isabel), Kelsey, and Kyle Davis, and Brooklyn Keller. Daughter of the late Percy and Hester Vaughn. Sister of Delores Williams, Shirley Brown, Winnie Wilmore, Herbert, Milton, and Michael Vaughn, and the late Dr. Percy J. Vaughn and Leon E. Vaughn. Josephine is also survived by 13 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers and members of Berean Presbyterian Church, Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church and all neighboring churches are invited to attend the Funeral Service at Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, 2805 General Taylor St. New Orleans, LA on Friday, November 12, 2021, at 11:00a.m. Pastor Moses Gordon II, host pastor; Bishop Holly Raby, of Word of God Christian Center, officiant; Rev. Moses Gordon III, eulogist. Viewing will be held from 9:00a.m.-11a.m. ONLY at the above named church. Interment: Mt.
