Joseph W. Smith, Jr., transitioned into God’s eternal presence on Sunday, September 14, 2025, at the age of 84. He was a native of Plaquemine, LA and a lifelong resident of Marrero, LA. “Joe”, as he was affectionately known by family and friends, was a graduate of Iberville High School. He was a retired employee with Gretna Machine and Iron Works as a Forman for 37 years. Joseph served his country duringn the Vietnam War in 1967 with United States Army. Beloved husband of the late Isabel Smith. Son of the late Joseph W. Smith, Sr. and Stella Mae McGinnis Smith. Although, he and his wife had no biological children, they were instrumental in the rearing of several nieces and nephews. Joseph, is survived by 8 sisters, 5 brothers, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Relatives and friends of the family also pastors, officers, and members of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, and neighboring churches are invited to attend a Celebration of Life at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church 1419 4th St. Westwego, LA, on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at 10:00am. Pastor Woodrow Hayden officiating. Visitation will begin at 8:30am until service time at the above named church. Interment: Restlawn Park Cemetery-Avondale, LA.
