Joseph Robert McKinnies peacefully departed this life on Saturday, September 19, 2026 at the age of 98. He was a native of New Orleans, LA and a resident of Gretna, LA. Joseph proudly served his country in the the United States Army during World War II. He was a former business owner of J & J’s Nightclub and Motel. Later in life became a skilled carpenter and home improvement contractor. He was a member of Pride of Algiers Masonic Lodge #102 (32°) and Platta Temple No. 15. Beyond his accomplishments, Joseph will be remembered most for the man he was to his family. He was fun-loving, generous, protective, and deeply loved by those around him. Also, one of the many things his family will cherish was his cooking, especially his famous gumbo, which was enjoyed and loved by the entire family. Beloved husband of the late Ruth May Brown-McKinnies. Devoted father of Angel Airelle Brown and the late Joseph R. McKinnies, Jr., and Janier Star McKinnies. Grandfather of Miracle Sanai McKinnies. Son of the late Brady and Martha McKinnies. Brother of the late Cathrine McKinnies Bernard, Martha McKinley, Marion Ware, Genevieve Davison, Brady McKinnies, Jesse McKinnies, Jafanus “JC” McKinnies, and Rev. Dr. Johnny McKinnies (who passed away 4 days after him). Godfather of Yvotta S. Brown, also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who loved him dearly.
