Joanne Geniene Johnson peacefully departed this life on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at the age of 62. She was a native of Marrero, LA. and a resident of Bradenton, FL. Joanne was a graduate of West Jefferson High School and was a proud member of Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church in Marrero, LA. Joanne was a familiar face throughout Marrero and was affectionately known by many as “Big Bird," a nickname inspired by her long legs and unmistakable presence. To her family, she was lovingly known as "Nanny." She had a larger-than-life personality, and she never met a stranger. Devoted daughter of the late Joseph Louis Johnson and Carolyn Leona Growe Johnson. Loving sister of Rhondalyn "Trenice" (Robert) Williams of Bradenton, FL, Keven (Christine) Growe of Algiers, LA, and Jonathan Growe of Marrero, LA. Joanne is also survived by a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers, and members of Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, Rock of Ages Baptist Church and all neighboring churches are invited to attend the Celebration of Life at Rock of Ages Baptist Church, 6533 Acre Rd. Marrero, LA on Friday, July31, 20266, at 10:00a.m. Visitation will begin at 8:30a.m. until service time at the church. Interment: Woodlawn Park Memorial Cemetery-Westwego, LA.
