JANICE MARIE HAWKINS

Janice “Maw Maw” Marie Hawkins entered eternal rest at University Medical Center on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at the age of 74. She was a native and resident of New Orleans, LA. She was a graduate of L. W. Higgins High School and later pursued her passion for cooking, earning her Culinary Arts Degree from Delagado Community College in 1981. Janice will be remembered for her charismatic and witty personality, and her presence brought laughter, warmth, and love to her family and friends. Loving mother of Lawrence Hawkins, Shavon Hawkins, and Tamrell Hawkins. Grandmother of Eddie Byrd, Lawrence Jackson, Tremaine Hawkins, Toriyain Hawkins, Eric Hawkins, Larell Thomas, Melissa Thompson, Kayron Hall, Tyren Davis, Lawrence Thompson, Lance Hawkins, Kentrell Hall, Kendrell Hall, Kyilek Hall, Kyiah Hall, Kyiu Hall, Karmah McGhee, Antonia Hall, and Kingston Hall. Daughter of the late Patrick, Sr. and Glayds Hawkins. Sister of Albertine (Harold) Jackson, Barbara Hawkins, Irvin (Mac) Hawkins, Edrena Hawkins, Terry Taylor, and the late Laverna Hawkins, Frank Hawkins, Patrick Hawkins, Jr., Bernadette McCaleb, Jerry Hawkins, Jacqueline Firven, and Mary Alexander. Godmother of Christopher Hawkins, also survived by 7 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Relatives and friends of the family also priest and parishioners of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, and neighboring churches are all invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, 455 Ames Blvd.  Marrero, LA on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at 10:00a.m. Father Sidney O. Speaks, III, Celebrant. Visitation begins at 8:00a.m. - 9:45a.m., Recitation of the Rosary at 8:45a.m. followed by Tribute. Interment: Restlawn Park Cemetery - Avondale, LA.
