James Oliver Johnson Jr, “Mingo James,” entered eternal rest at his residence on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at the age of 78. He was a native of New Orleans, LA and a resident of Harvey, LA. James was a graduate of John H. Martyn Senior High School of Shrewsbury, Louisiana, Class of 1965 and he also attended Delgado Community College. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force in August 1965. He received an honorable discharge in 1969 with numerous commendations. He was a retired employee of Chevron Chemical Company as Head of Operations & Logistics. Loving husband of Barbara Ross Johnson. Devoted father of James III “Jay Jay”, Steven, Brevin, Bria and Brion. Stepfather of Shannon Joseph. Grandfather of Jerron, Bastian, and Brandon. Son of the late James Oliver Johnson, Sr., and Dorothy Pierce Johnson. Brother of Carol Johnson (Ernest) of Niceville, FL and the late Antoinette Harry. James is also survived by 2 great granddaughters, 4 nieces, 1 nephew, 2 godchildren, and a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends. Relatives and friends of the family also pastor officers and members of Zion Travelers First Baptist Church of New Orleans, Greater Bethlehem Baptist Church of Metairie; employees of Chevron Chemical Company, VA Medical Center Primary Care & Women’s Health; members of Just Cruisin and John H. Martyn Class of 1965, are invited to attend the Funeral Service at Zion Travelers First Baptist Church, 406 Adams St., New Orleans, LA on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at 1:00 P.M. Visitation will begin at 12:00 P.M. until service time. Rev. Dr. Irvin Scales, Sr., officiant. Interment: Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery, Slidell, LA on Monday, June 2, 2025, at 11:00a.m. Arrangements by Davis Mortuary service 230 Monroe St. Gretna, LA.
