James Brown, Jr., age 64, was called home to be with the Lord at West Jefferson Medical Center on Friday, June 27, 2025. He was a native of Marrero, LA and a resident of Harvey, LA. He was a 1979 graduate of West Jefferson High School, and he attended Southern University Baton Rouge. James proudly served his county for 23 years in the United States Army, a commitment that reflected his deep sense of duty, discipline, and love for his country. His years of military service shaped his character and left a lasting impact on all who served alongside him. Throughout his life, James was a dedicated and hardworking man who took pride in providing for his family. He spent many years employed at Avondale Shipyard and Merit Sprinkler. He was a devoted servant of the Lord, and a faithful and active member of St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church, where sang with both the Male Chorus and Mass Choir. James was a true sports fanatic---whether it was football, basketball, or baseball, you could always find him cheering (or yelling) at the TV, as if the players could hear him. His humor, warmth, and love for life will always be remembered by all who knew him. Loving husband of 32 years to Linda Holloway Brown. Devoted father of Lyshonda Ruggs, Brittney Mayfield, and Semaj Brown. Doting grandfather of Allen Ruggs, Olivia Mitchell, and Ella Grace Mayfield. Beloved son of Patricia Nicholas and the late James Brown, Sr. Brother of Arnold (Sheena) Brown, Troy (Rachelle) Brooks, Kevin Brown, Faye (Don) Kitchen, and the late Aaron Brown. Nephew of Arthur Nicholas, Darryl Nicholas, Rev. Reginald (Eulalie) Nicholas, Sr., Carol N. Hill, Wanda N. Steib, Sandra N. Smith, Felicia Nicholas, and the late Ronnie Nicholas. Also cherishing his memories are a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers, and members of St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church and all neighboring churches are invited to attend the Celebration of Life at St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church, 6223 Avenue, Marrero, LA on Saturday, July 5, 2025, at 10:00a.m. Pastor Edward Joseph III, officiating.
