IOLA BRENDA EUGENE ONEZINE

Iola “The Chief” Brenda Eugene Onezine, age 83, answered the call of the Heavenly Father on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at Ochsner Medical Center Kenner, surrounded by her love ones. She was a native and resident of Westwego. Loving wife of late Joseph Onezine, Sr. Beloved mother of Debra Eugene Walker, Myra Simmons Weatherspoon, Deirdre Onezine Simmons (Milton), and the late Bruce Simmons, Laura Simmons, and Joseph Onezine, Jr. Daughter of the late Samuel Eugene, Sr. and Audrey Dixon. Granddaughter of the late James and Victoria Eugene, Ophelia Collins, and Mark Dixon. Sister of Sheila Ketchens (Albert), Annette Parker, Paulette Alexander, Kurt Dixon (Debra), and Tracy Eugene. Grandmother of Dwayne Eugene, Sr. Bridgette Walker, Bryan Simmons, Sr., Toi Weatherspoon, Bryson Simmons, Sr. (Jene), and Breione Weatherspoon, Godmother of Byron Davis and Harry Alexander. Also survived by 11 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers, members of Progressive Church, New Home Ministries, Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, Mount Calvary International Worship Center, Empowerment Church NOLA, Ephesus Missionary Baptist Church, True Vine Baptist Church, and all neighboring churches are invited to attend the Celebration of Life at Progressive Church 437 Cohen Street Marrero, LA on Friday, June 5, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. Apostle Sterling Mealancon, officiating.
