Horace Edward Chess departed this life at his residence surrounded by his family on Sunday, July 23, 2023, at the age of 81. He was a native of Hermanville, MS and a resident of Marrero, LA. “Pete”, as he was affectionately known by family and friends, was a retired diesel mechanic with Will Diesel. Beloved husband of the late Eveling Chess. Loving father of Donna Chess, Diedra (Kenneth) Dupard, Deterice (Don) Mitchell, Demetrics (Samuel) LaNeair, and Tamara (Terry) Phillips. Son of the late Woodrow and Rosie Mae Chess. Brother of Johnnie (Cynthia) Chess, Clementine (Rodney) Williams, Esther Chess, Jacqueline Landry, Mary Lee Chess, Linnie Smith, and the late Wendell Chess, Edward Chess, and Willie Dean Bailey, also survived by 12 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers, and members of St. Joseph Missionary Baptist and all neighboring churches; employees of Kipp New Orleans School, and Will Diesel are invited to attend the Funeral Service at St. Joseph Missionary Baptist Church, 236 Robinson Ave. Marrero, LA on Wednesday, August 2, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. Pastor Melvin Zeno, officiating. Visitation will begin at 8:30 a.m. until service time at the church. Interment: Restlawn Park Cemetery Avondale, LA. Arrangements by Davis Mortuary Service 230 Monroe St. Gretna, LA.
