Hakeem Kolawole Kashimawo, age 73, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2025, surrounded by the love and comfort of his family, at his home in Harvey, LA. A beloved husband, father, and friend to many, Kola touched the lives of many with his uncanny humor, wisdom, and unwavering dedication to his family. Born on July 18, 1951, in Lagos, Nigeria. Kola was the eldest of seven children. He graduated from Florida Memorial College, Miami, FL with a degree in accounting and went on to earn his master’s in business administration (MBA) in Finance from St. Thomas University, Miami, FL. For more than a decade, Kola served as Counselor at Florida Department of Juvenile, Children and Family Services. Prior to this, Kola worked as Store Manager for various Department Stores in Miami, FL. In his personal life, Kola found joy in cooking, took pride in doing activities with his kids, and watching historical NFL and NBA games on cable. He was a man of few words, but he spoke with meaning when occasion demands. His laughter, especially when watching old TV programs or movies, was warm and contagious. Kola spent his retirement years honing his culinary skills. A lifelong Christian, Kola accepted Christ in his life and was baptized in 1992, at Christ Apostolic Church, Miami, FL. Kola was a member of several socio-cultural civic organizations such Old School of Miami, FL, and Egbe Omo Yoruba of Greater Baton Rouge. He is survived by his beloved wife of 36 years, Luti Kashimawo, their two children Rachel Teni Kashimawo and Esther Tomi Kashimawo, by sisters Muyibat Kashimawo Onyekwelu (Fidel), Shakirat Kashimawo Quadri (Kamil) and Tawakalitu Olorunfemi Kashimawo. By brothers Wasiu Kayode Kashimawo, Kazeem Kashimawo (Modinat), Hamed Abiodun Kashimawo (Miriam), his uncle Dr. Tade Kashimawo, his aunt Sinatu Kashimawo and his mother-in-law Simbiat Animashaun. Kola was preceded in death by his parents Ligali Olanrewaju Kashimawo and Osenat Folashade Kashimawo, and his father in-law Mutairu Akanbi Animashaun. He is fondly remembered by his many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and colleagues. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Celebration of Life at Davis Mortuary Service, 230 Monroe Street, Gretna, LA on Friday, May 23, 2025, at 11:00a.m. Visitation will begin at 8:00a.m. until service time. Interment: Westlawn Cemetery, Gretna, LA. Repast will follow at Taravella Manor, 5240 Taravella Road, Marrero, LA where friends and family are invited to share their stories and memories. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Ochsner Children Hospital. Kola was grateful for the care provided by Ochsner Hospitals and Hospice Specialists of Louisiana. Hakeem Kola Kashimawo lived with humility, and deep love for his family, siblings, in-laws, and friends.
