Evangie “Van” Longino crossed over to receive his heavenly reward on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at his residence at the age of 86. He was a native of Hazlehurst, MS and a resident of Marrero, LA. Evangie was employed as a crane operator with Cooper T. Smith and Son and retired after 32 years of service. He was also the owner of D&F Seafood in New Orleans. Evangie enjoyed repairing washers and dryers as a hobby, which earned him the name, “Washerman”. He always stood firm in his faith and was a faithful and devoted servant of St. Mary Baptist Church of Marrero, LA, where he served as chairman emeritus of the deacon board. He was a Prince Hall Mason for many years. The neighborhood captain for many years, he never met a stranger, always greeting everyone with a smile. Evangie was mild-mannered man with a friendly spirit who always had a song in his heart. His life was a witness to the fruits of the spirit. Beloved husband of the late Zella P. Longino. Loving father of Debra Longino (Matthew) Scott and Fredrick (Shawonza) Longino. Grandfather of Devin J. Hollins and Joshua Longino. Brother of Rachael Gerard, Shirley Smith and Delores Sanders. Brother-in- love to Annette Flowers, also survived by an abundance of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, offices, and members of St. Mary Baptist Church, Life Center Cathedral, Friendship West Baptist Church Dallas, TX, and all neighboring churches; employees of The Louisiana Supreme Court, FedEx, UPS, and Clover Care (formerly Kingsley House) are invited to attend the Celebration of Life at St. Mary Baptist Church 6223 Sixth Avenue Marrero, LA on Saturday, July 18,2026 at 10:00 a.m. Rev. Dr. Edward Joesph, officiating. Visitation will begin at 8:30 a.m. until service at the church. Interment: Restlawn Park Cemetery, Avondale, LA.
