ETHEL MAE DAVIS

April 8, 1922 — May 3, 2021

Ethel Mae “Essie Mae” Davis, age 99, entered peacefully into eternal rest on Monday, May 3, 2021 at her resident.  She was a native of Thibodaux, LA and a resident of Marrero, LA. Ethel was a graduate of Christian Bible College and a retired Nursing Assistant from Charity Hospital. She was a member of Little Zion Baptist Church #3, where she was formerly active in several positions, which include, past President of Usher Board #1, recording Secretary of Special Chorus and Deaconess Board, and financial secretary of Sunday School to just name a few. In past years she has also held positions as President of the La. Freeman Usher Board, President of La. Freeman Missionary Baptist General Association Ushers Auxiliary, and #3rd Vice President of National Baptist Convention Ushers Auxiliary and Director of the Action Department. Loving mother of the late James Blake, Jr. and William Blakes, Sr. Devoted grandmother of Nanette Jordan, Beverly Ann Blakes, Amber Clair Blakes, William Blakes, Jr., Bryan Keith Whitley, Derrika Francis, Nadine Pugh, and the late Kenneth Blakes.  Daughter of the late Sadie Williams, Oliver Young, and Edward Williams. Sister of Harold (Louise) Young, Albertine Young, Carrie Young, and the late Willie Young. Essie Mae, as she was affectionately known to family and friends is also survived by 12 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers, and members of Little Zion Baptist Church #3 and all neighboring churches are invited to attend the Wake Service at Little Zion Baptist Church #3, 441 Wilson Rd. Marrero, LA on Thursday, May 13, 2021 at 7:00p.m. Viewing will be held from 5p.m.-7p.m. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, May 14, 2021 at 10:00a.m. Visitation will begin at 9:00a.m. until service time. Pastor Norman Smith, officiating.
