Ernest “Sarge” David Jones, age 89, entered peacefully in eternal rest on Sunday, August 15, 2021. He was a native and resident of Marrero, LA. Ernest served his country as a member of the United States Army. While in the military he completed his education through the U. S. Army’s G. E. D. program. He retired as an E-7 Sergeant 1st Class after 20 years of service. During his many years of service, he received numerous medals and commendations. Sarge, as he was affectionately known to family and friends, was also employed for 10 years as a police office with the Jefferson Parish Sheriff Office. After retirement he was actively involved in the everyday duties of his church Second Zion Baptist Church, until his health began to decline. Beloved husband of Barbara Dean Richard Jones. Loving father of Chaunsey E. (Gail) Jones, Avis E. Jones (Tyrone, Sr.) Hodges, David (Gaynell) Johnson, Sr., and the late Reginald E. Jones and Tenasha Manshack. Son of the late Samuel A. and Ethel Richard Jones. Grandson of the late Alfred and Celeste Richard, Adam Jones and Martha Taylor. Brother of Ervin (Laborah), Clifton (Jackie), Vernell, and Ronald (Sandra) Jones, Ruth Williams, and the late Samuel (Dolores) Jones, Jr. Gerald Jones, and Ruby (Joseph) Cullier. Father-in-law of Jennifer Jones. Son-in-law of the late Rev. Samuel and Lillie Richard. Brother-in-law of the late Jeanette C. Jones, Vernon (Doris) Richard, Daisy (Alvin) Jones, Yvette (Jimmie) Lawson, and Rev. Alex J. Pritchett. Ernest is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. Relatives and friends of the family of the family, also pastors, officers, and members of Second Zion Baptist Church, St. Mary Baptist Church, and all neighboring churches are invited to attend the Homegoing Service at Second Zion Baptist Church, 6520 Second Zion Ave. Marrero, LA on Friday, August 20, 2021 at 10:00a.m. Bishop James Nelson Brown, officiating Visitation will begin at 8:30a.m. until service time.
