ELIZABETH LOIS BROOKS MITCHELL

Elizabeth Lois Brooks Mitchell, a devout Christian and longtime Avondale, Louisiana resident, passed away at the age of 93. She was a faithful member of Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church for 85 years and served as a substitute teacher in Jefferson Parish Schools until her retirement. Elizabeth was the daughter of the late Rev. Clarence Ellis Brooks, Sr. and the late Bertha Lane Brooks. She was married for 41 years to the late Deacon Edward P. Mitchell. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, nine siblings (Clarence E. Brooks, Jr., Owen H. Brooks, Arnold W. Brooks, Lloyd S. Brooks, Sr., Hattie B. Clark, Theodore L. Brooks, Eugene H. Brooks, Sr., Rev. Dr. John A. Brooks, Sr., and Bertha R. Brooks) and seven nieces and nephews (Gerald E. Brooks, Sr., Jacqueline B. Alexander, Carline B. Monroe, Betsy J. Kearns, Lois B. Moore, Ashield Brooks, and John E. Clark, Jr.). She is survived by her devoted sister-in-law, Deaconess Kathleen L. Brooks, and 16 beloved nieces and nephews (Kermit Brooks, Glenn Brooks, Sheila B. Herron, Deacon Shan P. Williams, Sr., Lloyd S. Brooks, Jr., Deacon Lloyd J. Clark, Doris Clark, Rev. Preston E. Clark, Sr., Deacon Donald R. Clark, Marguerite B. Castille, Eugene H. Brooks, Jr., Carla B. Robinson, Patricia B. Brown, Anita B. Current, Donita Y. Brooks, Esq., and John A. Brooks, Jr.), as well as a host of other relatives and friends. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church, located at 922 Estalote Avenue in Harvey. Pastor Louis Harrison, officiating.
