ELIZABETH DUMAS CHOPIN

October 27, 1933 — July 7, 2021

Elizabeth Gilda Dumas Chopin was born on October 27, 1933, to Noffy and Esperance Jessie Dumas in Vacherie, Louisiana.  She was educated in St. James Parish Schools. Searching for adventure at a young age, she moved to Marrero, Louisiana, and met her love, Ivory Chopin Sr. They wed on August 1, 1953.  To this union, seven wonderful children were born, Ivory Jr, Debra, Veronica, Rickey, Cornelius, Arnelius, and Samantha. After moving, she became a parishioner of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church. In her later years, she joined The Whole Family Church under the leadership of her son-in-law David Walker. Gail, or Gilda as she was affectionately known, was employed with Johns Mansville and later became a homemaker.  Gilda was a seamstress, a creative cook, and a loving caregiver to many other family members.  Her favorite treats were Coke, cake, and especially ice cream. You could not help but laugh at her comical quotes and humorous comments. She recited the many prayers of the faithful, The Holy Rosary and taught her children and grandchildren her favorites, The Prayer of Sincerity, Ten Commandments, and The Our Father. You could hear her sing many of her favorite tunes and speak her Creole French language. Her adventurous spirit allowed her to travel many places. After traveling on two cruises, she was deemed “Queen Elizabeth,” a name that stuck with her. She was preceded in death by her husband Ivory Chopin Sr, her parents Noffy and Esperance Jessie Dumas, a son Arnelius Chopin, and daughter-in-law Shirley Chopin.  Brothers O’Neal Dumas, Landry Dumas, Duffy Dumas, Audry Dumas, sisters Adrial Dumas Williams, Dora Mae Dumas Jerome, and Willie Ann Dumas Jeffery. She leaves cherished memories to her children, Ivory Chopin Jr, Debra Veal (Ernest), Veronica Walker (David), Deacon Rickey Chopin (Thelma), Cornelius Chopin (Shelia), and Samantha Chopin Amos.
