Dorothea Celeste Wilson, 42, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, August 26, 2025, at East Jefferson Medical Center. She was a native of New Orleans, LA and a resident of Marrero, LA. Dorothea was a 2001 graduate of L. W. Higgins High School and continued her studies at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, LA, where she earned her bachelor’s degree. Dorothea later received her master’s degree in journalism from Arizona State University. She was employed as a co-anchor for LBP’s weekly news and public affairs program, Louisiana: The State We’re In, and as a weekend anchor at WAPT in Jackson, MS. Known for her warmth, professionalism, and dedication to sharing news and information to keep the public informed, lead to a distinguished career in journalism. Dorothea will be remembered as a remarkable individual who touched the lives of everyone she encountered. Devoted mother of Jason D. Williams. Beloved daughter of Sandra Wilson Dennise and Roger Lee Nicks. Granddaughter of the late Leon and Celestine Wilson, Sylvester and Essie Nicks. Cherished sister of Brittany Dennise, Gabrielle Dennise, Elshekita Holmes (Antonio), Samaria Ratcliff, Laikyn Nicks, Eric Yarborough, Terrance McGray, Justin Lewis, and Roger Nicks, Jr. Loving fiancé of Steven Willis; also survived by a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers, and members of surrounding churches; employees of LBP, WAPT, and all other professional colleagues; Sorors of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. are invited to attend the Celebration of Life at Rock of Ages Baptist Church 6533 Acre Rd. Marrero, LA on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at 10:00a.m. Visitation will begin at 8:00a.m. until service time at the above-named church. Interment: Restlawn Park Cemetery-Avondale, LA.
