DAMITA JO NELSON

Damita Jo Nelson entered eternal rest at West Jefferson Medical Center on Friday, September 19, 2025, at the age of 69. She was a native of New Orleans, LA and a resident of Marrero, LA. Damita attended L. W. Higgins High School, and she was a former employee with West Jefferson Medical Center as a patient service worker. Beloved wife of Johnny R. Nelson, Sr. Devoted mother of Shanell N. Nelson, Lynn L. Nelson, Dwayne M. Nelson, Corey Nelson, Robyn M. Nelson, Jamira M. Nelson, and the late Johnny R. Nelson, Jr. Grandmother of the late Damira Nelson. Daughter of Joyce Augustus George and the late Ethridge Lee Smith. Stepdaughter of the late Clarence George, Sr. Granddaughter of the late William Augustus and Rebecca Powell. Sister of Tyrone “Bobba” (Cheryl) Smith, Clarence George, Jr., Joycelyn “Minnie” Goerge, and Donna Anderson. Aunt of the late Jeremy Guillory, also survived by 17 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Celebration of Life at 6820 Westbank Expressway Marrero, LA on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at 10:00a.m. Visitation begins at 8:30a.m. until service time at the above name parlor.
