Bernard Joseph Carmouche Jr. transitioned on Monday, March 23, 2026, at the age of 59. He was a proud native and resident of Uptown New Orleans, LA. Bernard was a graduate of Walter L. Cohen High School, Class of 1985. “Chef B”, as he was affectionately known by family and friends, carried the soul of his city into every kitchen he led. He began his culinary journey at Commander’s Palace under Chef Emeril Lagasse and rose through the ranks to hold key leadership roles within the Emeril Lagasse organization, helping shape acclaimed restaurants across the country. He further honed his skills in Paris, France, at Le Moulin de Mougins under Chef Roger Vergé and later fulfilled his entrepreneurial dream as co-founder of Two Chefs Seafood & Oyster Bar and Muddy Waters, sharing the bold flavors and spirit of New Orleans. Chef B’s talent earned him numerous honors, including induction into the Orlando Dining Awards Hall of Fame, the James Lewis Award from the Black Culinarian Alliance, and the Edna Lewis Award. He appeared on national television programs including Good Morning America, Emeril Live, Beat Bobby Flay, and Chopped, and was featured in publications such as The Times-Picayune, New Orleans Magazine, and Orlando Sentinel, among others. Devoted husband of Andrea R. Carmouche. Loving father of Joshua B. and Candace C. Carmouche. Godfather of Jeremie M. and Charles T. Carmouche and Zhané R. Nelson. Son of the late Bernard Joseph Carmouche Sr. and Theresa Becknell Carmouche. Grandson of the late Bernard J. Carmouche, Lucille and Rueben O’Bryant Sr., Joseph Sr. and Thelma Becknell. Godson of and the late Jimmy Saul. Brother of Charlene, Gwendolyn, Edith (Robert), Cassandra (Michael), Kevin (Laura), Joseph, Paula (Nelson), and Keisha. Nephew of Reuben (Chilwana), Joseph (Dianne), and Edmond O’Bryant, William Curry, Clarence Becknell, Sr., Thelma and Linda Becknell, Sandra Odom, and the late Cedrick O’Bryant and Joseph Becknell. Son in law of the late Mary J. Russ. Brother in law of Clarence, Louis, Charles, Wayne, Ovelia, and Denise, and the late Gary Tucker Sr., Sylvester Russ, Raymond Johnson, and Martha Venson, also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, proteges and friends. Relatives and friends of the family also priest and parishioners of St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, and neighboring churches are invited to attend A Mass of Christian Burial at St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, 2015 Louisiana Ave. New Orleans, LA on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. Interment: Mt.
