ALFRED RAGAS, SR.

Alfred Ragas, Sr. age 77, was called home to eternal rest on  Saturday, January 7, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. He was a native and resident of New Orleans, LA. Alfred was a 1964 graduate of L. B. Landry Senior High School. He began his career as a Merchant Marine Seaman in 1964, as a part of the Seafarers International Union, where he traveled the world until 1988. He then began working for Sealand as a Crane Operator on the docks, until he retired in 2003. An inspiration to everyone he met, Alfred enjoyed spending time with family, especially his grandkids. He was a devoted and loyal supporter of local High School in Algiers. Beloved husband of Estelle Ozan Ragas. Loving father of Alfred Ragas, Jr., Aaron J. (Gilshanna) Ragas, and the late Alex R. Ragas. Stepfather of Joann Jones (Eric) Hunt. Devoted grandfather of Aaron J. Ragas, Jr., Victoria Ragas, and Stephanie Ragas. Step-grandfather of Chantrell Hunt and Maureen Hunt. Step great grandfather of Amir Hunt. Son of the late Henry P. Ragas and Anita Hamilton Ragas. Brother of Ronald “Scott” Ragas, and the late Henry Vincent and Donald Ragas. Brother-in-law of Diana Ragas, Ramona Ragas, Delores Eskinde, Mandrake Ozan, and the late Berdly Grant Ragas. Alfred is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, also priest and parishioners of All Saints Catholic Church and all neighboring churches are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at All Saints Catholic Church, 1441 Teche Street Algiers, LA on Wednesday, January 18, 2023, at 10:00a.m. Visitation will begin at 8:00a.m. until service time at the church.
